Document Work (MLA)(LO5)

Learning Outcome 5

Framing Statement: For the fifth learning outcome I think the best way to describe my progress was success but struggling at the same time. In high school writing was always easy for me, I used information and wrote an ok paper. Entering college on the other hand it was very difficult, the different formats, academic writing and using information the correct way was much different. Within High School we went over MLA and citing to an extent, they just wanted the basics and cared more about how it flowed. Now being in college it all changed, from citing the correct way and using the information was just as important as writing. I had to adapt and change my view on writing and how I did my work. I lacked in specifics when writing my paper, such as correct quotes and the correct way of building up to them. I eventually learned how to properly edit a paper and how to correctly build into quotes. I made foolish mistakes when using the correct MLA format, and this started to change my view on other types of writing for different classes as well. This helped my papers do better and start to expand more. I also struggled with the works cited page and how it should be properly done, in high school we always used a cite and threw in the website and it did it for us, this is not the case for English in college. My simple ways of works cited was not good enough, which resulted in issues. Reading through the “Little Seagull Handbook” I was able to find the correct method to citing sources and have our work be professional. These simple methods have greatly benefited me and will aid me in any further writing projects no matter what class it may be.
